MOROVICH GAINS SUPPORT

1 March 2010

Today we were in East Austin meeting many long term Democrats and I am pleased to report that 48 out of 50 met were supportive. We met Arabs at a store who allowed me to put large signs at their store on a busy intersection on 7th Street (next to a Farouk Shami sign, but… my sign says “Republican”) and put up another 6 signs on 7th Street. We also put up 6 signs on Caesar Chavez street. Doggett will see these on his way to the airport. Also one guy allowed me to put up signs in front of the “Amigo Market” and he even put a “Dump Doggett / Vote Morovich” bumper sticker on the glass entry door. Stopped by a black owned Bar B Q  place and they allowed me to put 2 signs up, and so on. There were two dissenters which were in the Doggett Camp, one socialist and another in support of “alternative” families (and insulted by the Dump Doggett sticker). So, based on experience from these encounters today, let’s keep the effort going and we shall win the General Election in 2010!

MOROVICH PLEDGES NO “EARMARKS”

9 January 2010
For Immediate Release

George Morovich, candidate for the Republican Nomination for the 25th Congressional District of Texas, today pledged to propose no earmarks when he is elected to replace Rep. Lloyd Doggett in the 112th Congress. “Earmarks” are the appropriations inserted by almost every member of Congress into all spending bills to fund special interest pet projects at home with federal tax dollars.

“It is not the job of a member of Congress to ‘bring home the bacon’ with federal tax dollars,” George Morovich said “but to represent the people of the district by protecting their freedoms and protecting all of our futures with sound, rational fiscal spending policies.”

The Democrats just passed a spending bill increasing many federal government departments’ budgets by 10%.  The bill also contains 5,000 “earmarks” for local projects put in by members of Congress (of both parties) that total $3.9 billion.  “Republicans have been guilty of placing earmarks too,” Morovich said, “but it’s time to stop this irresponsible spending, and it has to start somewhere.  Someone has to take a stand, and I will do it.”

“Congress is often accused of ‘spending like drunken sailors,’” Morovich added, “but the analogy is wrong.  ‘Drunken sailors’ spend their own money; Congress spends yours.”  Many of the earmarks are worthy projects, and many, many more are not.  But virtually all of these projects should be funded by local tax dollars or charitable contributions, not federal tax dollars.

“Putting together the federal budget should not be a game in which members of Congress seek re-election ‘points’ by funding  construction of Frisbee golf courses to get their names in the local newspaper,” Morovich said.  “This country is in serious financial trouble and the time for games is long over.”

GEORGE MOROVICH RESPONDS TO DONNA CAMPBELL ATTACKS ON SUSAN COMBS

21 December 2009
For Immediate Release

In a recent posting on her website, Donna Campbell viciously attacked Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, one of our most effective and respected Republican elected officials. Following the leads of other irresponsible bloggers, Campbell accused Combs of channeling state funds to groups associated with ACORN. She further accused our Comptroller of not demonstrating fiscal responsibility and taking actions that do “not demonstrate judicious use of our Texas Tax dollars.”

In response, George Morovich issued the following statement:

“I am outraged that my opponent in the Republican Primary for Congressional District 25 has stooped so low as to attack as respected a public official as Susan Combs.  In her desperate attempts to gain headlines and associate herself with fringe groups, Campbell has demonstrated not only a lack of civility but an eagerness to spread lies and misinformation. Her shallow decision-making process is also apparent; her statements were based on misinformation that could easily have been checked if she had taken the time to determine the real facts.

I have a great deal of respect for Susan Combs; she has always exhibited the highest levels of both professional and ethical standards.  Comb’s explanation of expenditures mandated by the legislature more than adequately demonstrates her complete adherence to the law and ethical standards. Campbell’s attacks on her with half-truths and lies are unforgivable.

I look forward to being on the Republican ticket with Susan Combs in November.  Only by working together can we Republicans begin to take back our country.”

MOROVICH WINS HEALTHCARE DEBATE!

George making recommendations on health care reform at the Americans for Prosperity Healthcare Debate.

1 December 2009
For Immediate Release

On November 30th, the American for Prosperity Foundation sponsored a debate in Austin that included Congressional opponents, and Democrat Congressman Lloyd Doggett (who was invited, but did not attend the event).  The discussion of health care issues was lively and the presentations were followed by a wide range of questions from the audience.

But after the discussions of this complex and contentious issue were over, one thing was obvious: George had put forth the most sensible and sound recommendations and had clearly won the debate. George  is a businessman who has traveled widely in foreign lands and seen, firsthand, conditions in much of the world. Health care reform is about public policy and the business of the system, not about how to diagnose patients: he is uniquely qualified to make a difference here.

George brought his common-sense, businessman’s approach to the health care issue and made the following observations and recommendations at the debate:

  • the current bills are unconstitutional and we need to start over,
  • there’s no need to rework the entire health care system for the relatively few real issues that need to be fixed,
  • if there is massive fraud in Medicare, let’s fix that first,
  • if these plans are so great why does Congress refuse to be included in the plans?,
  • there is a need to bring back some personal responsibility for taking care of one’s health care; it’s not the government’s role to take care of us,
  • we sorely need tort reform to reduce costs,
  • let’s bill people who don’t have insurance and try to collect,
  • illegal aliens should be treated for life and death issues in hospital emergency rooms, but otherwise referred to clinics,
  • re-establish real health care savings accounts with individual Medicare payments and
  • energize the local communities to help out with these responsibilities.
