Political Expediency Is Not the Answer

18 Jan 10:  Politics is alive and well in Washington, D.C.!  After facing criticism for a proposed tax on “Cadillac” health plans (see my blog dated January 9, 2010), President Obama and Congressional Democrats figured out how to fix the problem.  They will exempt unions from the tax!  How’s that for fairness?  This is a glaring example of political magic.  Since unions are the source of a solid block of voters, they must be appeased.  Therefore, just like a magician, the politicians do a “disappearing act” and make the tax disappear for the unions.  The tax would not be eliminated; it would just be imposed on non-union workers.  There is no acceptable rationale for this – political expediency appears to be the norm in Washington.

I will take a stand in Washington to stop using politics to solve problems.  Decisions must be made based on sound reasoning and fairness.  All legislators must be accountable for their votes.  I will be accountable to the people.
