Polls show that over 60% of the American people do not want this legislation, yet our opinions have been ignored. This vote is proof that the people are no longer truly represented in Congress. This cannot be hailed as a victory.
Our Founding Fathers created a nation that is meant to be a “representative republic.” That means that the government is supposed to “represent” the people. The only way to do that is for the government to follow the will of the people.
When I am in Congress, I will be a true representative of the will of the people and will work toward influencing other legislators to do the same.
